Our performance work is an effort to create an honest and playful experimental space. We hope for performance and training practices to arise out of the research and play which calls our souls into action. Artistic Director Karoliina Sandström, PhD, approaches the work through combining several fields of study, an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on Buddhist philosophy, neuroscience, the study and practice of creativity and more recently interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory and the study of trauma. This research has manifested in Espacio Kuu as projects exploring altered states of presence, consciousness, embodiment; cognition of the present moment in the performance event, performance as an encounter and finally in the development of Arising Performance.
Espacio Kuu searches a freedom of the artist, where each individual may expand their potential, where the audience is encountered, mirrored and met in play, playfulness and the vulnerability of being. The world in this present moment, can be what we make it to be, so let's make it honest, kind, life affirming and healing for us all.
The theatrical practice in Espacio Kuu is always first and foremost based in training practice. This is why much of the theatrical activity is also based in creating the spaces and the experiences for group training, personal, and creative development which has a deep interest in the ritual and ancient practices of warriorship in any discipline.
